Introduction to Approaches in Music Therapy is organized into three sections: Approaches Adapted from Music Education, Psychotherapeutic Approaches to Music Therapy, and Medical Approaches to Music Therapy. Each chapter provides an overview and history or background of an approach to music therapy, including philosophical orientation, clinical applications of the approach, related research, summary or conclusions, and suggestions for further reading.

Editor Alice-Ann Darrow, Ph.D., MT-BC, is the Irvin Cooper Professor of Music Therapy and Music Education at The Florida State University. Contributors include twenty-eight clinicians, academicians, and researchers from the United States and Canada.
